Geographical Facts Of Syria 




Syria which is officially known as Syrian Arab Republic.

It is located in Asian Continent.It exactly lies in Middle East.

The Capital and the largest city, Damascus is located near the border of Lebanon.

River Euphrates which is the lifeline of Syrian population ,
crosses the country in the East.

The country's latitudinal extent is  32° and 38° N while the longitudinal extent is 35° and 43° E. 


The climate is diverse and varies from place to place.The climate which often form the humid Mediterranean coast through a semi-arid steppe zone,to arid desert in the east.




Syria has four terrestrial ecoregions-

1.Mesopotamian shrub desert


2. Southern Anatolian montane conifer and deciduous forests

3.Syrian xeric grasslands and shrublands

4.Eastern Mediterranean conifer-sclerophyllous broadleaf forests
The most part of the country consists arid plateau while the north-west part bordering the Mediterranean is fairly green.


It shares the land border with Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon and the maritime border with Cyprus.

 It directly open to Mediterranean sea in the west.

The total area is  185,180 km² which is almost the U.S. state of North Dakota.

Major cities are Latakia, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor, Aleppo, Homs, Daraa.


Petroleum and natural gas is the chief economic driver.


In the Forest Landscape Integrity Index( 2019) ,Syria scored 3.64/10 which ranked the country 144th globally out of 172 countries.



The Syrian Civil War which is a long and an ongoing multi-sided armed conflict in Syria.Which is fought between the Ba'athist Syrian Arab Republic led by President Bashar al-Assad, along with local and foreign allies, and also with the help of  various domestic and international forces opposing both the Syrian government and each other in varying combinations.

Fighting in Syria( Since March 2011) has killed an 
approximately  465,000 people and the injured is injured more than a million and displaced people are estimated 12 million people, almost half of the country's pre-war population.
