Geographical Facts Of Sudan




Sudan is a African Country which lies in the Northeast Africa.


The country is officially known as the Republic of the Sudan.


World's longest river Blue Nile flows through the country's capital Khartoum.

Sudan shares its maritime border with Red Sea.


Sudan's land bordering countries are -Egypt ,Eritrea , Ethiopia  ,South Sudan ,Central African Republic ,Chad and Libya.


Sudan is the fifteenth  largest country in the  whole world (by area).


Sudan is located in between 8° and 23°N latitude.


Sudan's geography is generally flat plains and broken by many mountain ranges.



The highest point in Sudan is Marah Mountain.


In the east of the Sudan are Red Sea Hills.


The White Nile and Blue Nile rivers meet in the country's capital Khartoum to form the Nile River ,which flows northwards through Egypt and finally drained into  Mediterranean Sea.



Lake Nubia is located on the Sudanese-Egyptian border.


The Roseires and Sennar Dams are on the Blue Nile while the Jebel Aulia Dam is on the White Nile.

Due to natural and anthropogenic activities, Sudan is facing a serious challenge of desertification which can be catastrophic in the future.

Soil erosion is also the major concern of Sudan.



As of 2021 census, 21 mammal species and nine bird species are endangered , as well as two species of plants.


The critically endangered species are-

1.Hawksbill Turtle

2.Waldrapp 

3.Tora Harteeest


4. Slender-horned gazelle


5.Northern White Rhinoceros.

Sahara Oryx has become extinct in the wild.

As of 2021 , the country's population is 45 million people.


Sudan is Africa's third largest country by it's area.



Before 2022, Islam was the Sudan's state religion.

Now it's a secular state.

Oil production is major income source of income.



Sudan is a member of UNITAED NATIONS along with Non-Aligned Movement,Organisation Of Islamic Co-operation , African Union and Arab League.





In March 2022 ,South Sudan bracing for ‘worst hunger crisis ever' caused by conflict, climate shocks, COVID-19, and rising costs.
